...Did he tell you about the Laws? Because you should really know those. You can get into a lot of trouble with the Council if you mess up. The kind that ends in your head no longer being attached to your neck.

1. Thou shalt not kill by use of magic.
2. Thou shalt not transform others.
3. Thou shalt not invade the mind of another.
4. Thou shalt not enthrall another.
5. Thou shalt not reach beyond the borders of life.
6. Thou shalt not swim against the Currents of Time.
7. Thou shalt not seek beyond the Outer Gates.

Though--for the record--ignorance of the Laws is no excuse. Does your world have a White Council?

Uh...I did sort of kill that guy with magic, but it was kind of self defense. Does that count? And it wasn't exactly with magic, I just needed magic to pick up a ghost axe.

He'd been trapping spirits and forcing them to reenact their deaths over and over again for his entertainment, so some of the ghosts were helping.

Nah. He wanted to absorb whole wizards, just to get the power. I didn't let him.
