[twenty four] I need an adult.

[video clicks on and Molly is sitting in her open closet with Mouse, the dogosaurus, beside her. she looks extremely worried.]

Um. Excuse me? [she hooks an arm around one of Mouse's legs and hugs him.] I'm not supposed to be by myself at night. I stayed alone with Fluffy [yes, she has named Mouse Fluffy for the time being] last night, but he's not really like being with a grown up, and he kept the monsters from coming after me while I slept, but I would really like an adult. Does anyone know who I'm supposed to stay with? Please?

[That dog is so large. He's never going to get over this.]

Real monsters? Yes. [He's thinking of Magog.] I can smell them from far off.

He's not a very nice person. But he's still just a person, and he shouldn't be able to hurt anybody now.

You remembered to eat your vegetables too?

[Yes, he really, really is.]

Wooooow. [See Molly's tiny, tiny wide-eyed awe.] Is that a special power? Monster-smelling?

Good--I'm glad he can't hurt people now.

I did! Mama says you're supposed to have a vegetable with every meal--especially kids.

Good! Your mother advised you well.

All of my people have a good sense of smell. But there's only two of us here, so I suppose it would be special.

She's really smart. She knows everything.

Who are your people?

We're called Nietzscheans. We're strong, we have very intense senses, and we take very good care of our children.

[beeeeeeeam]

Like me. Can we have a blanket fort?

You'll have to show me how one is made. [He can guess, though. It's out of pillows.]

I can show you. I'll bring extra blankets. [She hugs Mouse's leg again.] Fluffy will help me. I'm on level Seven. We have to carry them up the stairs.

I'll come and help you. [That dog is going to be even bigger in person, isn't it? Oh goodness.]

[Yeah. Think something on the lines of Tibetan Mastiff]

Really? Thank you so much! I'm in room seventeen, and my name is Molly. What's your name?

Commander Gaheris Rhade. It's a pleasure to meet you, Molly. And you too [Giant dog] Fluffy.

It's nice to meet you too, Commander Rhade. [polite tiny-Molly is polite] I'm going to get into my pajamas, then Fluffy and I will come find you!

I'll meet you up in the 7th floor hallway.

[Clad in pink pajamas with fluffy bunny slippers, Molly is out in the seventh floor corridor. She has an armload of blankets from her bed, and Mouse is walking docilely behind her. Looking huge.]

[Soon Rhade comes out, all sturdy muscular guy and boyish face and gaze fixed on the huge dog before he finally smiles at her.] Hi Molly.

[Molly looks up at him and gives him a big smile.] Hi! I grabbed all the blankets from my room! [She's struggling a little to hold him, but she's very happy.] I bet we can make the whole room into a blanket fort!

You certainly have them in ample supply. [He leans down to help her with her blanket load.] At least we'll be well reinforced.

[The solemnest nod.] No monsters will be able to sneak in. [She reaches up to wrap her arms around his waist for a tight hug.] Thank you for coming to find me.

[The hug was a little surprising, and reminded him of getting off work at home. Of coming in to see his family when he could. His daughters always so excited to see him.

Sometimes he misses his family very much.

He reaches down and ruffles her blond hair.] You make it sound as if it were an effort.

[She looks up and smiles, still hugging him.] Well, you didn't have to.

[He's going to be dead of happy beaming face so much. He's being dosed with so much of it from below. He does his best to shift everything and then moves to stoop down.] Put your arms around my neck and hop on. [Burly Nietzschean will piggy back her down there.]

[Molly squeaks with happy and climbs on. PIGGY BACK RIDE.] We're going to the eighth floor now?
