Hi--I'm Molly. Looks like I'm going to be your new warden. We should meet.

[wry grin] Nice to meet you. Do you always go by Top Dollar, or do you have a nickname or something?

'S what people call me.

Top Dollar it is, then. I'd like to meet, if you don't mind. Where are you? And--do you have a problem with dogs?

Well I ain't allergic, if that's what you mean.

Great--would you like to meet for a walk in the CES, then? We can get to know each other a little, and Mouse can get some exercise.

Well--it's part of what I mean. Mouse--that's my dog--is pretty big. If it bothers you to have him around, I won't take offense, but he's usually pretty friendly.

What's the CES?

Oh--it's above the deck, and actually kind of cool. It's a closed in area that becomes all kinds of different environments... as far as I can tell, there's no real pattern as to why it changes and when. You need a warden with you to get up there, but I can meet you on the deck.

When?

Fifteen minutes?

All right.

The sorrow is almost too much for me to bear. Don't worry, I think leaving my room for the first time in weeks will be enough to soothe the pain.

I never said you couldn't. Only that you had to have me with you if you did. I'm deeply wounded that you would rather stay in your room than hang out with me. Really. Words fail.

Aww. It's nothing personal--I don't "hang out" with any of my pawns after they provide what I need.

And yet somehow, I'm managing not to cry myself to sleep every night over missing your pleasant company.

[Fifteen minutes later, Molly is on the deck, waiting with Mouse. She has him on the leash, not that he really needs it, but people tend to be more comfortable when the woolly chammoth has a person attached.]

[Top Dollar does not have definite plans for this person. He knew he'd get a Warden eventually, of course. But it's become a matter of sizing them up and better assessing his place here through that. He was mildly surprised that he was assigned a girl, but girls had surprised him before. Myca was hardly helpless, after all. It's just that the Wardens seemed to fit the Inmate and had means to overpower them. Of course -- coming up on deck and seeing her now he is immediately aware of what means she has to protect herself, at least. He raises an eyebrow.]

That's quite a dog you got there.

[She gives him a little smile in return.] He's something all right. His name is Mouse, and he's usually very friendly. [Unless you were some kind of dark creature, or had imminent plans to hurt the people he cared about, but Mouse looks perfectly placid, so Molly doubts that's an issue.]

It's nice to meet you face-to-face.

Mouse, huh? [He looks down at the dog almost sympathetically, as though they were sharing some moment of confidence.] Women, right?

Well, the name fit, once upon a time. [Molly smiles a little wryly, because Mouse is anything but tiny now. And of course, the name is Harry's fault, not hers, but who cares?]
